Japanese companies expand shareholder benefit programs

In August 2026, 52 Japanese companies announced the establishment, expansion, or commemorative implementation of shareholder benefit programs, according to data from SBI Securities.

Kao Corporation, a major manufacturer of consumer goods such as cosmetics and detergents, announced a new shareholder benefit program on August 5, 2026. The program includes the distribution of company products based on the number of shares held. For shareholders holding between 400 and 999 shares, a selection of cosmetics or household goods valued at approximately 6,000 yen will be provided, while those holding 1,000 shares or more will receive items valued at 10,000 yen. Additionally, shareholders with at least 100 shares will be eligible for invitations to company-hosted events.

These initiatives are often implemented by Japanese firms to encourage long-term individual investment and are frequently viewed as a strengthening of shareholder returns, which can positively influence stock prices.
