Japanese companies Kota and Meitetsu Kyosho report potential data breaches

Two Japanese companies have reported potential large-scale personal data breaches following cyberattacks.

Kota Co., Ltd. announced that an investigation into a March 2026 cyberattack revealed that the personal information of approximately 109,000 individuals may have been viewed. The affected data includes information belonging to shareholders, service users, and business partners. The company has since completed the reconstruction and strengthening of its network and server environments, restoring all internal systems to normal operation.

Meitetsu Kyosho Co., Ltd. reported that a ransomware attack has potentially compromised customer data for its car-sharing service, ‘Kariteko’. The breach may include names, addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses, and driver’s license information for both current and former members. Some customers may also have had credit card information exposed. The company is working with external experts to investigate the cause and strengthen security measures.
