Japanese cultural scene sees new film, stage plays, and musical debuts
Several major cultural and theatrical projects are launching in Japan. The film ‘Tohoku no Vienna’ has released its visuals and special report. Starring Ayano Enomoto, the film is set in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture, and follows a 15-year-old girl with mild hearing loss who finds connection through a high school choir. The project aims to promote regional revitalization by showcasing local culture and landmarks.
The stage production ‘Meiji the Cat's Eye,’ based on Tsukasa Hojo’s manga, has opened at Hakataza. Featuring Norika Fujiwara, Reiko Takashima, and Ayame Gouriki, the play is a reimagining of the ‘Cat's Eye’ series set in the Meiji era. Following its Fukuoka run, the production will move to Meiji-za in Tokyo and Shin Kabukiza in Osaka.
Additionally, former Takarazuka Revue star Yuki Hana is expanding her career into musical theater and television. She is set to star in the musical ‘Hoshikage no Hito’ this November, playing a geisha in a story centered on Okita Soji, while also appearing in the NHK morning drama ‘Blossom’.
