Japanese drama history highlights casting shifts and actor versatility

Japanese television and film history have seen significant casting shifts and notable performances. In the NHK Taiga drama ‘Idaten: Tokyo Olympics’, actor Pierre Taki was replaced by Hiroki Miyake following Taki’s arrest for drug law violations in 2019. The production took the unusual step of reshooting scenes to ensure continuity for broadcasts and home media.

In contemporary productions, actor Kazunari Ninomiya continues to receive attention for his versatile roles. He is currently appearing in the TBS drama ‘VIVANT’ as the character Nokoru. His previous acclaimed works include ‘Lageri yori Ai o Komete’, for which he won a Japan Academy Film Prize, and ‘Black Pean Season 2’, where he performed a dual role as twin surgeons.
