Japanese education entities receive recognition for AI innovation
Japanese educational institutions and corporations are receiving international recognition for their integration of artificial intelligence.
Kwansei Gakuin University, in collaboration with IBM Japan, has been awarded the Grand Prize at the 4th Open Badge Awards for its AI Human Resource Development Program. The program utilizes e-learning and project-based learning to teach students and professionals how to identify social issues and solve them using AI. Since 2021, the initiative has issued digital open badges to over 50,000 students and 7,500 professionals from more than 200 organizations.
Separately, Benesse Corporation’s ‘Benesse AI Tutor’ for middle and high school students has been named a top 10 finalist in the Major Company category of the 2nd Global EdTech Prize. The AI-driven platform uses generative AI to provide 24-hour support, including visual explanations and personalized study plans. The finalist will present its innovations at the World Schools Summit in London in January 2027.
