Indonesia dispatches 430 athletes to 2026 Asian Games
As the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, approach, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has officially dispatched a contingent of 430 athletes and 145 officials to compete across 35 sports branches. To incentivize performance, President Prabowo announced a significant increase in rewards, promising a Rp3 billion bonus for each individual gold medalist, a notable rise from the Rp1.5 billion awarded during the 2022 Games. Additionally, the government plans to offer career acceleration and rank increases for successful athletes and coaches who are civil servants.
Regional competitors are also finalizing preparations. The Indian men's hockey team has departed for Japan, aiming to defend their title and secure direct qualification for the LA 2028 Olympics. Meanwhile, Malaysia has set targets for both the Asian Games and the Asian Para Games, with the national badminton squad aiming for gold medals. In the esports category, the 2026 Games will feature an expanded roster of 11 competition numbers and 13 different games, including Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and PUBG Mobile.
