Japanese Emperor and Empress send relief to typhoon-hit prefectures
The Emperor and Empress of Japan have sent condolence money to Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures through the Imperial Household Agency following the significant damage caused by Typhoon 25.
In a separate relief effort, the Imperial couple visited Kumamoto Prefecture on September 30 to support those affected by the Reiwa 8 Kumamoto Earthquake. During their visit to Yatsushiro City, Hikawa Town, and Uki City, the Emperor and Empress met with residents living in temporary housing and interacted with local schoolchildren. To show solidarity with the disaster-stricken area, the Imperial couple wore 'Kumamon' character pins, a gesture inspired by the local governor.
