Japanese entertainment news: WEST. member Shigeoka and comedian Hamada in spotlight

In Japanese entertainment news, Daiki Shigeoka of the idol group WEST. appeared on the variety program ‘Poka Poka’ on September 7. The appearance drew attention from fans because the program did not broadcast footage of the outdoor viewing area at the Fuji TV studios, despite many fans being present. This occurred following the recent departure of group members Ryusei Fujii and Nozomu Kotaki, as well as several marriage announcements within the remaining group members, which has led to mixed reactions among the fanbase.

Separately, a ranking of comedians that young performers most want to be ‘tsukkomi’ (straight man) for was announced on the program ‘Mimi no Ana Kappojitte Kike!’. Masatoshi Hamada of Downtown took first place with 326 points, significantly ahead of Teruki Goto and Shinya Ueda. Participants praised Hamada for his ability to enhance comedy through his reactions and for establishing the standards of the role.
