Japanese experts stress diet for brain health and longevity

A Tsukuba University researcher who studies brain fatigue recommends a daily breakfast of egg, natto, low‑GI oatmeal and salmon, citing its protein and DHA content as a way to keep the brain and body in good condition.

Separate research highlights the Mediterranean diet’s ability to lower overall mortality risk by about 20‑40 % and reduce cardiovascular, stroke and cancer deaths. The diet’s key components—abundant fruits and vegetables, olive oil, nuts, whole‑grain foods, fish, moderate red wine and plenty of water—are contrasted with the typical Japanese diet, which, while low in fat, may lack sufficient quantities of these foods.

Both pieces suggest that dietary choices can significantly impact brain function and lifespan, encouraging Japanese readers to incorporate more of the Mediterranean diet’s elements alongside traditional meals.
