Japanese film 'Moon is Watching' adds star cast including Hitomi Kuroki
The upcoming Japanese film 『月がみている』 (Moon is Watching) is directed by Naoko Watanabe, the daughter of Junichi Watanabe, who adapts her father's novel 『シャトウ ルージュ』 from a female perspective. The picture stars Masakuma Katsuya and Riri Kojima in dual lead roles.
New cast members have been announced: veteran actress Hitomi Kuroki will play the mother, Tokuma Nishioka the father, and Yō Yoshida will portray Eva, a mysterious woman living in a French château where the protagonist undergoes a “sexual lesson.” The film was shot largely on location in western France, using a real historic castle, and is scheduled for a nationwide release in November 2026.
Kuroki said the work “asks directly about women’s sexuality,” while Nishioka praised the director’s “fine‑grained expression” and Yoshida highlighted the director’s “pure conviction about the essence of sex.”
