Japanese fireworks festivals announce schedules and attendance
Major fireworks festivals in Japan are preparing for their upcoming schedules. In Oyama City, Tochigi Prefecture, the ‘Oyama Fireworks’ event is scheduled for October 3, 2026, at the Omoigawa riverbank. The festival will feature approximately 20,000 fireworks shells. General ticket sales for paid viewing areas begin on September 1, 2026, via internet and in-store options. Due to ground subsidence at Shiroyama Park, no paid seating will be available there this year; instead, new paid areas will be established on the right bank of the Omoigawa river.
In Tsuruga City, the 77th ‘Toro Nagashi and Grand Fireworks Festival’ was held on August 16, 2026, at Kehimatsubara, attracting approximately 220,000 spectators. While attendance remains high, observers noted a perceived reduction in the overall scale of the fireworks display compared to previous years, with a greater emphasis on artistic single shots and the finale.
