Japanese firms expand renewable energy via solar leasing and battery storage

Mitsui & Co. Real Estate Management, e-dash, West Holdings, and JERA Cross have reached a basic agreement to implement a renewable energy supply scheme. The project will utilize idle roofs of logistics facilities to generate solar power, which will then be supplied to offices, hotels, and commercial facilities. Using an “equipment leasing model,” property owners will invest in the equipment to monetize unused space and improve ESG ratings, aiming for over 10MW of capacity by March 2028.

Separately, Digital Grid announced that its managed capacity for grid-scale battery storage has surpassed 200MW across more than 100 locations as of September 2026. The company provides aggregation services that control multiple batteries to discharge during high demand and charge during low demand, contributing to the stability of the power grid as renewable energy adoption increases.
