Japanese food firms see sales rise and announce major ramen-chain acquisition
Marumiya Food Industries reported that its fiscal 2026 sales for January through May were up 4% year‑on‑year, with core categories such as furikake seasoning, Chinese‑cooking bases and rice‑pot mixes all posting gains. Executive director Toshiro Oshima said the company aims to appeal to cost‑conscious consumers and highlighted strong performance of items like soft‑furikake (+8%) and mixed seaweed (+4%).
In the same period, Matsuya Foods Holdings completed a 9.1 billion‑yen purchase of the ramen‑restaurant operator Rokurisu, adding the “Rokurisu” and “Sharin” brands to its portfolio. The acquisition is part of a broader surge in restaurant‑sector M&A, which rose 64% year‑on‑year, and reflects Matsuya’s strategy to expand its multi‑brand portfolio and improve profitability in the ramen segment.
