Japanese food retailers expand specialized menu offerings
Major Japanese food retailers and convenience stores are expanding their specialized menu offerings. Seven-Eleven has introduced Mabo Tofu Yakisoba, a spicy dish featuring Doubanjiang and Sichuan pepper, available in specific regions including Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama, and Kyushu.
Seven-Eleven has also updated its bakery line with renewed pizza options, including Margherita and Teriyaki Chicken varieties. These products now feature improved dough moisture to maintain quality after cooling and are available in both full-sized and individual handy sizes, with pre-ordering options via the 7NOW service.
Meanwhile, the restaurant chain Matsuya has expanded its Black Mabo Tofu Teishoku from limited locations to a nationwide rollout. The dish utilizes Mala sauce and Douchi to provide a deep, spicy flavor profile, offered as a set meal with rice and vegetables.
