Japanese gaming and anime companies post strong Q1 earnings, unveil new titles

On July 31, several Japanese game and entertainment firms disclosed their first‑quarter results. MIXI reported double‑digit revenue growth after adding sports‑betting firm PointsBet to its consolidated accounts, but profit fell because of goodwill amortisation. The company also began global operation of its game STRIKE WORLD in India. Other listed companies such as Toei Animation, Sony Group and Marvelous also released their earnings, though detailed figures were not provided.

Television Tokyo Holdings (TV Tokyo) announced a 6.5% rise in operating profit to ¥2.19 billion, driven by overseas distribution of anime IPs like Naruto. Konami posted a 33% increase in revenue and a 63% jump in operating profit, boosted by strong sales of eFootball and upcoming releases including Silent Hill: Townfall, while its new title Dice Strikers was launched in Canada and Spain. Wacom reported flat profit of ¥2.7 billion as its tablet and pen‑tablet products held steady. Across the sector, numerous new games and apps were released on various platforms.
