Japanese high school athletes excel in regional track and field meets

High school track and field athletes in Japan have achieved notable results in recent regional rookie competitions, despite weather disruptions caused by Typhoon 25.

At the prefectural rookie athletics meet, three athletes from the Awa region secured spots for the Kanto High School Selection Rookie Athletics Championships in Yokohama. Momoka Tomari (Awa High School) took second place in the girls' pole vault with a height of 3.10 meters, while Leo Hashimoto (Awa High School) finished second in the boys' pole vault with a record of 4.10 meters. Kanon Kojima (Awa Takushin High School) also qualified for the Kanto competition in the girls' high jump after placing fourth.

In Tokyo, Kokugakuin High School athletes competed in the Tokyo Metropolitan High School Rookie Athletics Championships at Komazawa Olympic Park Athletics Stadium. The event faced challenging conditions, including extreme heat and heavy rain. Notable performances included Ken Nakamura, who set a new Kokugakuin High School record in the boys' 400m hurdles with a time of 59.05 seconds, and several other students who achieved personal bests in sprinting, jumping, and relay events.
