Japan's 108th Summer High School Baseball Championship Progresses

The 108th National High School Baseball Championship continued on July 15‑16 2026 with regional tournaments across Japan. In Kanagawa, Yokohama defeated Tokai University Sagami 8‑1 in front of roughly 10,000 spectators, advancing to the fifth round. The Niigata summer tournament completed its round of 16, with teams such as Teikyo Nagaoka (14‑2 win) and Niigata Meikun securing places in the next stage.

In the Kyoto district, Kyoto International staged a 3‑2 comeback over Kyoto Bunkyo, keeping its three‑year winning streak alive. The Tochigi competition saw a surprise early exit of former champion Aorai Taito, losing 4‑1 to Utsunomiya Technical, marking the first first‑round defeat of a reigning champion in 25 years. The Aomori tournament determined its eight qualifiers, including Shita‑Yamagata and Hachinohe teams, after three‑round action at four venues.

Large crowds and local support highlighted the event, with schools such as Urawa Industrial High School featuring brass‑band performances to cheer their baseball teams. The combined results set the field for the upcoming quarter‑finals of the national tournament.
