Japanese high schools expand focus on global university admissions

Shibuya Kyoiku Gakuen Shibuya Junior and Senior High School has released its 2026 university admission results, highlighting strong performance in both domestic and international higher education. The school reported 36 students accepted to the University of Tokyo, 11 to Tokyo Institute of Technology, and 8 to Kyoto University. In the private sector, 106 students were accepted to Waseda University and 73 to Keio University. Notably, 104 students gained admission to medical faculties, and 70 students were accepted to overseas universities, including the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia.

Reflecting a broader trend in Japanese secondary education toward globalization, the International Student Success Association (ISSA) will host the 4th Global School Management Strategy and Practice Case Studies symposium on September 12–13, 2026, at Ritsumeikan University's Tokyo Campus. The event aims to address how high schools can design curricula for overseas university advancement, English education, and international training. Participating institutions include various Japanese high schools and international universities such as the University of Toronto, Iowa State University, and Temple University, Japan Campus.
