Japanese idol Kanna Hashimoto becomes nationwide sensation after 2013 viral photos

Kanna Hashimoto was born in 1999 in Fukuoka, Japan. She began her entertainment career as a child model and later joined the local idol group Rev. from DVL, performing mainly in the Kyushu region.

In November 2013, images of her 14‑year‑old performance were posted on Twitter and 2channel and quickly went viral. The surge of interest overloaded her management company's website, propelling her to national fame and earning her the nickname “once‑in‑a‑thousand‑year miracle.” Her distinctive amber‑colored eyes, found in roughly 5 % of the world population and extremely rare in East Asia, were highlighted as a key factor in the phenomenon.
