Japanese illustrators face income decline due to generative AI
The widespread adoption of generative AI is causing a significant decline in work for Japanese illustrators. According to a survey by the Freelance Federation, approximately 12% of illustrators reported a decrease in income ranging from 10% to over 50%.
This shift has sparked strong backlash within the creative community. Concerns primarily center on unauthorized data training, potential copyright infringement, and the perceived devaluation of human artistic effort. While some creators view AI as a potential supplementary tool, the situation has highlighted urgent challenges regarding the protection of creator rights and the preservation of artistic value.
