Meccha Chameleon hits 10 million sales on Steam, becoming 2026’s breakout indie hit

The multiplayer hide‑and‑seek game Meccha Chameleon, released on Steam on 10 June 2026, surpassed 10 million copies sold within a month. Developed by a two‑person Japanese team (Lemorion handling maps and models, Haganeiro handling system code) in roughly two months, the title was priced at about €6 and received no marketing budget.

Its simple camouflage mechanic, low hardware requirements and rapid, competitive matches sparked a viral wave on social media and Twitch, driving the game to the top of Steam’s sales charts in June. SteamDB recorded peak concurrent player counts of over 340 000 and daily active users placing the game among the platform’s most played titles.

The sudden popularity also attracted scammers posting fake Android versions of Meccha Chameleon on app stores, which have amassed tens of thousands of downloads despite the official game being Steam‑only. Developers continue to release updates, new maps and language support to sustain the community.
