Japanese interval walking method offers health benefits

A Japanese interval walking method is gaining attention as an alternative to the traditional 10,000-step daily goal. This technique involves alternating between three minutes of brisk walking and three minutes of slow walking, repeating the cycle five times for a total of 30 minutes.

Originally developed for seniors, the method is suitable for all ages. Benefits include improved aerobic capacity, better balance, increased strength, and positive effects on BMI, blood pressure, and glucose levels. It has shown particular promise for individuals with type 2 diabetes. Experts recommend beginners start at a moderate pace and gradually introduce short bursts of fast walking.
