An'okink clinches Nagoya sumo tournament victory, eyes Ozeki promotion

On the final day of the Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament (26 May), sekiwake An'okink (安青錦) secured his third championship in three tournaments. After starting the playoff with two losses, he defeated Ozeki Kirishima (霧島) and maegashira Atami Fuji (熱海富士) to win the title, posting a 10‑win record that positions him for possible promotion to Ozeki at the next basho.

The tournament also highlighted former ozeki Asanoyama, who returned from injury, recorded a two‑digit win tally and drew enthusiastic support from his hometown of Gohyō in Toyama, though he fell short of a winning record. East Maegashira Fujinokawa (藤ノ川) achieved a kachi‑koshi of 8‑7, earned his first Special Prize and is set to become a sanyaku‑ranked wrestler at the upcoming tournament.

An'okink’s triumph attracted international attention when the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces sent a congratulatory message praising his fighting spirit, likening his perseverance on the dohyo to a soldier’s resolve.
