Japanese men arrested for facilitating Cambodia‑based fraud rings

A 30‑year‑old self‑described self‑employed man from Osaka, identified as Yamamoto Katsuya, was detained by Aichi Prefecture police for allegedly introducing a Japanese "front man" to a special‑purpose fraud group operating out of Poipet, Cambodia. The recruitment was conducted via social media in April‑May 2025, and investigators say Yamamoto received a reward of about ¥1 million for the introduction.

Separately, a 26‑year‑old suspect was apprehended at a business hotel in Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture, on charges of overseas abduction and kidnapping. He is accused of luring a man in his 20s with promises of earning ¥10 million within a year, threatening him, escorting him to a Tokyo airport, and transporting him abroad to make fraudulent telephone scam calls in early 2025. Police are continuing investigations into both cases and the broader networks involved.
