Munetaka Murakami faces hitting slump and home run drought

Chicago White Sox infielder Munetaka Murakami is facing a significant performance slump, marked by a career-long home run drought of 14 games. While he recently ended a 22-at-bat hitless streak with a single against the Houston Astros, his overall production has declined, with his batting average dropping to .215.

Former White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen has offered critical advice regarding Murakami's recent struggles. Guillen suggested that the player appears to be struggling with plate discipline and pitch recognition, noting that he often misses fastballs in the zone while chasing breaking balls outside. To alleviate pressure, Guillen recommended moving Murakami from the second spot in the lineup to the seventh spot to help him regain his swing mechanics and focus on hitting toward center field rather than solely seeking home runs.

Despite the recent single, the White Sox lost the game to the Astros 2-0. Murakami's season has seen a sharp decline since August, following a period where he was highly regarded as a top rookie performer.
