Japanese municipal subsidies boost manufacturing research and community training

Okazaki City in Aichi Prefecture offers a “Okazaki Manufacturing Support Subsidy (Joint Research Project)” that reimburses up to half of research or consulting fees paid to universities or testing institutes, with a maximum grant of ¥500,000. Eligible applicants are manufacturers that maintain a head office or production facility in the city and meet tax‑payment and other requirements. Applications are accepted from 1 April 2026 to 31 January 2027.

Nakagawa Town in Hokkaido runs a “Human Development Training Project” that funds up to ¥600,000 for training, travel, accommodation and related expenses. The scheme supports a wide range of activities, from leadership workshops and youth sports camps to international exchange and industry skill‑building programmes. Applicants must submit a plan two months before the training start date, and approved costs are prepaid at 90 % with the remainder settled after completion.

Both programmes aim to lower financial barriers for local businesses and residents, encouraging innovation, skill development and community revitalisation.
