Japanese NPB pitchers consider MLB moves via posting system
Several prominent Japanese professional baseball players are weighing options to join Major League Baseball (MLB) through the posting system this offseason.
Seibu Lions pitcher Kaima Hirano, who recorded a league-leading 1.36 ERA this season, is being analyzed by U.S. media outlets like ‘Bleacher Report’. Analysts suggest Hirano could be a highly effective reliever or closer in the MLB, potentially commanding a contract in the range of $60 million over three years. His value is being compared to Tatsuya Imai, who recently moved from Seibu to the Houston Astros.
Meanwhile, Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters ace Hiromi Ito has expressed significant indecision regarding a potential move. Ito described his current state as ‘fifty-fifty’, noting that he is deeply contemplating his future to ensure he makes a decision he will not regret. While the Fighters are expected to permit his posting application, Ito remains torn between his commitment to his club and the desire to compete at the highest level of global baseball.
