Japanese parliamentary delegation visits Taiwan for National Day
A cross-party delegation of 27 Japanese lawmakers, led by Keiji Furuya, head of the Japan-Taiwan Friendship Parliamentary League, arrived in Taiwan to participate in the National Day celebrations. This visit marks the first large-scale delegation organized under the group's new name, following its rebranding from the ‘Japan-China Parliamentarians' Study Group’ in June.
The delegation is scheduled to meet with President Lai Ching-te and Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu to discuss parliamentary diplomacy and shared regional concerns. Members also plan to visit the Taiwan High Speed Rail Yanqiao workshop in Kaohsiung to inspect new Japanese-made rolling stock, highlighting cooperation in the rail transport sector.
Furuya emphasized the group's commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and expressed gratitude for Taiwan's previous disaster relief contributions to Japan, specifically regarding the Kumamoto earthquake reconstruction.
