Japanese players reach record numbers in Premier League

A record 10 Japanese players are registered in the Premier League for the current season, marking a significant increase in the presence of Japanese talent in English football. Recent arrivals include Zion Suzuki at Aston Villa, Takehiro Tomiyasu at Crystal Palace, Hidemasa Morita at Hull City, and Daizen Maeda at Ipswich Town.

These players join established names in the league such as Kaoru Mitoma of Brighton, Wataru Endo of Liverpool, and Daichi Kamada of Crystal Palace. Other Japanese players currently in the league include Ao Tanaka at Leeds, Kota Takai at Tottenham, and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto at Coventry.

Football agent Joel Pannick of CAA Base noted that English clubs have “increased confidence that signing a Japanese player is a good move to make.” He highlighted that clubs face minimal issues regarding the adaptation, personality, integration, and discipline of Japanese players, reducing the perceived risk of such signings.
