Japanese police arrest ex‑boyfriend for murder of 17‑year‑old high‑school girl in Kanagawa

Kanagawa Prefectural Police arrested a 19‑year‑old man, identified as a house painter, on suspicion of murdering 17‑year‑old high‑school student Yura Sato, his former girlfriend. The girl was found unconscious on a riverbank in Minami Ward, Sagamihara, on the night of June 10 and later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Investigators located the body using GPS data from the victim’s mobile phone and arrested the suspect the next morning. He admitted to the allegations, which police say include strangulation at a vacant site near Shimomizo Station. The case is being further investigated to determine the exact cause of death.
