Japanese police arrest suspects in major fraud and theft cases

Authorities in Japan have made several arrests related to large-scale fraud and theft operations. In Osaka, a 33-year-old woman, identified as Yumehana Ikeuchi, has been referred to prosecutors on suspicion of involvement in a specialized fraud scheme. The case involves the theft of approximately 200 million yen worth of cryptocurrency from a man in his 70s in Kure City. Investigators believe Ikeuchi acted as a ‘tool provider,’ receiving equipment used for the fraud at a post office in Osaka. She has denied the allegations.

Separately, four individuals, including 35-year-old Akiya Kuwahara, have been arrested for a series of thefts totaling nearly 78 million yen. The group is suspected of stealing 143 items, including necklaces, from stores in Fukuoka and Osaka. In one instance in Fukuoka, the suspects allegedly used safety cones to pose as construction workers before entering a shop via a high window. The suspects, who include Kuwahara’s father, sister, and partner, reportedly traveled by rental car from Aichi Prefecture. Police believe the group is responsible for over 100 million yen in total damages across multiple incidents.
