Japanese police hold security seminars to combat rising corporate scams

Police departments in Japan are conducting security seminars for businesses to combat a rise in scams targeting employees and corporations.

In Osaka, the Higashi Police Station reported that of 64 special fraud cases occurring through July, more than half involved employees, with approximately 70% of those victims being targeted while on duty. A seminar held at Nippon Life Insurance Company addressed these tactics to increase awareness among workers.

In Tokyo, the Metropolitan Police Department held a seminar attended by 32 companies, including Ricoh, to address ‘fake president scams’ and business email fraud. These schemes involve criminals impersonating executives to order fraudulent wire transfers or posing as business partners to redirect payments to false accounts. Authorities are urging employees to verify suspicious requests and consult with others rather than acting alone.
