Japanese police launch campaigns against SNS investment and romance scams

Japanese law enforcement agencies are intensifying efforts to combat fraud facilitated through social media. In Aichi Prefecture, the Nakagawa Police Station appointed Tokai TV announcer Ajun Shinoda as an honorary chief of police to raise awareness about investment and romance scams. During an event at Nagoya Stadium, Shinoda urged the public to remain skeptical of investment opportunities offered via SNS and cautioned against trusting individuals based solely on online interactions.

In Tokyo, the Metropolitan Police Department conducted training sessions for insurance company employees to prevent SNS-based investment fraud. The sessions highlighted how individuals may inadvertently become involved in criminal activities after responding to ‘dark part-time job’ advertisements on social media. Employees were encouraged to help increase crime prevention awareness among their clients.
