Arcadia data breach affects 20 prefectural police forces in Japan
A major data breach involving the Osaka-based IT company Arcadia has potentially exposed the personal information of approximately 125,000 police officers and staff across 20 prefectural police departments in Japan. The breach occurred following unauthorized access to Arcadia's systems, which are used for disaster-related safety confirmation services.
The affected police departments include Kanagawa, Hyogo, Saitama, Aichi, Tochigi, Gunma, Ishikawa, Fukui, Kyoto, Wakayama, Okayama, Hiroshima, Tokushima, Kagawa, Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Miyazaki, Kagoshima, Okinawa, and Iwate. The leaked data reportedly includes names, affiliations, email addresses, and in some cases, mobile phone numbers, including private contact details used for emergency purposes.
In addition to law enforcement personnel, the breach has impacted approximately 16,000 private citizens and 2,600 corporations registered for crime prevention information services in Kyoto, Shimane, Yamaguchi, and Fukuoka prefectures. The National Police Agency is currently investigating the extent of the leak and working with Arcadia to verify the specific data compromised. While unauthorized use of the information has not been confirmed as of the latest reports, authorities have warned against suspicious emails or links.
