Japanese prickly ash cultivation succeeds in Kahramanmaraş

In the Andırın district of Kahramanmaraş, producer Galip Baran has successfully cultivated Japanese prickly ash (Japon iğdesi), introducing a new agricultural alternative to the region. The fruit is noted for its high nutritional value, cell-regenerating properties, and ability to adapt easily to various soil types and climates.

Baran highlighted that the fruit is already becoming more common in provinces such as Bursa, Yalova, and Balıkesir. He noted that the fruit offers a long shelf life, remaining fresh on the branch for extended periods, and can be consumed fresh or used in teas, desserts, and pastries.

To encourage local agricultural diversification, Baran announced plans to support other producers by providing free branches to those interested in sapling production during the upcoming spring months in the Yeşilova neighborhood.
