Japanese private pharmacy schools see rising tuition and varying dropout rates

Recent data regarding private pharmacy faculties in Japan highlights significant disparities in both educational costs and student retention rates.

In terms of tuition, Keio University's Faculty of Pharmacy has the highest total cost for a six-year program among major institutions, reaching approximately 15.58 million yen. This reflects a 1.74 million yen increase compared to four years ago. Tokyo University of Science follows with approximately 13.29 million yen, while Nihon University's total is approximately 13.01 million yen.

Regarding student stability, a study of 57 private six-year pharmacy programs reveals a wide gap in dropout rates. While some institutions maintain dropout rates as low as the 1% range, others see rates as high as 39.3%. Four universities reported dropout rates exceeding 30%. Factors contributing to these departures include the difficulty of keeping up with academic requirements and the increasing financial burden of tuition.
