Japanese professional baseball players face injuries and retirement

Several Japanese professional baseball players are facing significant health and career milestones. Orix Buffaloes catcher Yuma Tonya has been discharged from the hospital following reconstructive surgery on his right knee, expressing a strong determination to return to the field next season.

In a separate development for Orix, first-year draft pick Atsuya Fujikawa has undergone Tommy John surgery on his right elbow to address ongoing issues. Meanwhile, veteran pitcher and coach Yoshihisa Hirano has announced his retirement at the end of the season, with a ceremony scheduled for September 25.

Additionally, former Chunichi Dragons pitcher Sho Ishikawa has reported his discharge from the hospital three months after being diagnosed with spinal infarction. Ishikawa noted that while he still experiences partial paralysis and functional impairments, he is now able to walk without the use of a cane.
