Japanese providers KDDI and IIJ expand enterprise network and security services

Japanese telecommunications and internet service providers are expanding their enterprise network and security offerings to meet rising demand for high-speed, secure connectivity.

KDDI Corporation has announced its ‘AccelWaves’ initiative, designed to integrate corporate networks, security, and operations. As a first step, KDDI is launching a SASE gateway in partnership with Palo Alto Networks to combine the reliability of closed networks with cloud-based security. The core ‘KDDI AccelWaves Network’ is expected to launch in fiscal year 2028, featuring automated bandwidth optimization and centralized management.

Concurrently, Internet Initiative Japan (IIJ) has enhanced its ‘IIJ Omnibus’ SD-WAN service. The update introduces the SEIL CA10 appliance, which supports 10GbE ports, and enables connectivity via 10Gbps-class IPv6 IPoE lines through NTT East and NTT West’s ‘Flets Hikari Cross’. These upgrades aim to support high-traffic environments and the growing adoption of SASE and SSE (Security Service Edge) architectures.
