Niigata Ibis Summer Dash 2026 draws attention to top sprinters

The Grade‑3 Ibis Summer Dash 2026 will be run over a straight 1,000‑metre turf course at Niigata Racecourse on 2 August. Defending champion Puromagic, who won the race last year and recently captured the Hakodate Sprint Stakes, is targeting a back‑to‑back victory. Originally slated to be ridden by Christophe Lemaire, the mount was reassigned to Kohei Matsuyama, who then withdrew with an injury, prompting a last‑minute switch to experienced jockey Yusuke Tanabe.

Other notable entries include Clam Sico, who upset expectations in the previous Adatara Stakes, and the veteran eight‑year‑old Wing Latest, a former top‑three finisher in the 2025 edition. Statistical analysis of the past decade shows that the first‑ or second‑favorite finishes in the top two positions in nine of ten runnings, with an average win‑place‑show payout of ¥2,807, suggesting limited upside for long‑shot bets.

A separate preview highlights Bugradas, a six‑year‑old colt making his third attempt at the Chōjitsu (千直) race under trainer Takayuki Kato and jockey Sugihara. The trainer reports the horse is in good condition despite rainy weather forecasts, noting its strong performance on dirt surfaces. Overall, the race is expected to be decided by a combination of early speed, jockey tactics, and track condition.
