Japanese railway branding and logistics projects win Good Design Awards
Several Japanese railway initiatives have been recognized with the 2026 Good Design Award for their contributions to logistics and regional branding.
JR East, in collaboration with JR East Logistics, received the award for its dedicated luggage Shinkansen. This service utilizes modified specialized carriages to facilitate large-scale transport, addressing labor shortages and environmental concerns in the logistics industry while promoting regional economic revitalization.
JR West was honored for the branding of its suburban trains in the Chugoku region. The project introduced distinct identities for different areas, including ‘Red Wing’ in Hiroshima, ‘Urara’ in Okayama, and ‘Kizashi’ in Yamaguchi. By incorporating unique regional colors and names through community workshops and public contests, the initiative aims to transform the perception of local trains into cherished regional assets.
