Japanese redevelopment projects trigger temporary closures of eateries in Okayama and Sasebo
In Okayama’s Noda‑cho district, ramen shop Menya Saki announced a temporary closure slated for the end of July 2026 because the area is undergoing the Noda‑cho 1‑2‑3 district urban redevelopment. The shop’s relocation plans are still under discussion, and nearby businesses such as Indian‑home‑cooking Miringa, Cake Lab Regale, and Ramen Hannya are also facing temporary shutdowns or relocation as the redevelopment progresses.
In Sasebo, Nagasaki‑based retailer Sasebo Tamaya resumed limited operations in a warehouse after closing its main store in Ebisu‑cho at the end of January 2026. The warehouse serves as a temporary outlet while the main building undergoes redevelopment, allowing the company to continue serving customers until the permanent premises are ready.
