Japanese regional festivals feature traditional dance and community events

Various regional festivals are being held across Japan, featuring traditional dance and community activities.

In Sapporo, the Sapporo Moiwa Ropeway will host the ‘Moiwa-yama Bon Odori’ on September 12, 2026. Held at an altitude of 531 meters, the event features Bon Odori dances incorporating both traditional songs and J-pop. The festival includes appearances by various mascots from across Hokkaido, ninja shows, karaoke competitions, and food trucks. Visitors wearing yukata will receive benefits such as free ropeway rides and discounts on soft serve ice cream.

In Ina City, the 54th Takato Castle Town Festival took place on September 5. The event transformed local streets into pedestrian zones where community groups performed dances and music. Highlights included a performance themed after the 1582 Battle of Takato Castle, as well as Awa Odori groups from within and outside the prefecture. The festival also featured local food vendors and activities for children, such as fire truck demonstrations by the Takato Fire Department.
