Japanese regional festivals scheduled for September

Various traditional Japanese festivals are scheduled to take place across different regions.

In Fukuoka, the Hakozaki-gu Hojo-ya festival, a tradition with over 1,000 years of history, is held from September 12 to 18. The event features numerous food stalls, seasonal specialties like new ginger, and traditional attractions such as haunted houses.

In Suginami, Tokyo, the Umahashi Inari Shrine annual festival is set for September 5 and 6, 2026. The festivities include Shinto rituals, dragon dances, and an exhibition of children's artwork known as 'Eto-ryu' that illuminates the shrine grounds at night.

In Yokohama, the Tomioka Hachiman Shrine Autumn Grand Festival will be held over three days on September 20, 21, and 27, 2026. The celebration includes the 'Yutate Kagura' ritual, which has been passed down for over 800 years, and large-scale portable shrine processions.
