Japanese research facilities resume operations after emergency server maintenance

On May 1, 2024, RIKEN’s supercomputer HOKUSAI BigWaterfall2 (HBW2) performed emergency maintenance on its front‑end server and compute nodes from 12:00 to 15:00 JST. The system was unavailable during that window; active sessions were disconnected and running jobs were forcibly stopped. Jobs flagged with the –requeue option were automatically resubmitted after the service resumed at 13:45, while other jobs must be manually re‑queued.

The Japan Society of Low Vision and Strabismus announced a scheduled server maintenance that will suspend its email service from about 20:00 on 12 November 2025 until 02:00 on 13 November 2025 while a chassis is replaced. Email sending and receiving will be unavailable, though the web and FTP services remain operational.
