Japanese restaurant sector sees closures and new openings
Several developments are occurring within the Japanese restaurant sector. In Amagasaki, the specialty wonton ramen shop Akakimidori is set to close on August 31, 2026.
In Tokyo's Edogawa Ward, the cafe and ramen concept Lulamen, which opened in June 2026, closed on July 31, 2026. This closure was part of a broader termination of partnership-based operations by UNCHI Co., Ltd., resulting in the closure of nine ramen shops, including the Jinrui Mina Menrui Kyoto Kawaramachi branch, on July 31, 2026.
Conversely, a new establishment, Menya Yushin, is scheduled to open in Awara City, Fukui Prefecture, on September 1. The shop will feature domestic ingredients, including Hinai Jidori chicken and whole wheat handmade noodles.
