Japanese retail brands expand with new openings in California and Hong Kong
Japanese retail brands are expanding their footprints in major urban markets. Hashi Market, a New York-based supermarket chain, is set to open its first West Coast location in Cupertino, California, on October 9. The 20,900-square-foot store, located in the Crossroads Center, will operate under a ‘mini department store’ concept, offering direct imports from Japan such as seafood and Hokkaido beef, alongside sushi, matcha products, and household goods. The company is currently evaluating further locations in the San Francisco Bay Area, including Milpitas and San Mateo.
In Hong Kong, the popular conveyor belt sushi chain Sushiro is opening a new branch at the Olympian City in Sham Shui Po on October 5. To celebrate the opening, the restaurant is hosting promotional events, including limited-time food discounts and appearances by local influencers. The new location aims to tap into the high-density dining market of West Kowloon.
