Japan's summer drives surge in cooling gadgets and accessories

As temperatures climb, Japanese retailers and brands are promoting a wide range of cooling products to help consumers beat the heat. Major manufacturers such as Dyson, Sony, Sharp and Shark have launched lightweight handheld fans and mist‑plus fans, some offering discounts of up to 29 % (e.g., Shark FlexBreeze Pro Mist for ¥24,980). Lifestyle brands are also marketing wearable coolers, ice‑packed handkerchiefs, cooling scarves, aromatherapy towels and UV‑blocking umbrellas. Footwear options include Vibram’s breathable FiveFingers “BREEZANDAL” shoes, highlighted for their open‑upper design and high‑grip soles. Domestic drugstore chain Matsumoto Kiyoshi (Matsukiyo) features a selection of cold‑gel primers, cooling body sheets, scented spray cleaners and chilled facial water to provide instant relief. The products are sold through online platforms, pharmacies and specialty stores, aiming to make the summer more tolerable for shoppers across Japan.
