Japanese rider Ai Ogura wins historic MotoGP race at Assen

Ai Ogura became the first Asian and the first Japanese rider to win a MotoGP main race, claiming victory at the Dutch TT in Assen on an Aprilia machine. The win marks the first Japanese triumph in the premier class since Makoto Tamada’s 2004 victories, ending a 22‑year drought. Ogura’s unconventional riding style – extreme lean angles that appear to push the bike to the edge of stability – impressed observers and contributed to his late‑race surge, taking the lead with seven laps remaining. The result moves him within 25 points of the championship leader and adds a new challenger to the title fight. Ogura’s calm post‑race comment was, “I don’t have much to say,” reflecting his understated approach despite the milestone.
