Japanese schoolchildren favor Gemini and ChatGPT in AI tool usage survey

An online illustration school, Atum Academy, surveyed 460 parents of elementary and middle‑school children about the AI tools their kids use. Gemini topped the list with 42.6% of respondents, closely followed by ChatGPT at 40.9%. Around 70% of parents view AI as having a positive impact on their children’s learning, citing improved efficiency (25.5%) and the acquisition of future IT skills (25.2%). Among those seeing a negative impact, 64.9% fear a decline in thinking ability.

A separate survey by DeltaX of 104 high‑school students found that 96.2% have used generative AI, with 49% using it weekly or more. Students mainly employ AI for study‑related tasks such as problem solving (56%) and research assistance (41%). For personal matters like romance and relationships, 44.2% turn to AI, surpassing friends (26%). When it comes to career or college advice, parents and teachers are preferred. Over half of the respondents (57%) feel some dependence on AI, and 14% have been cautioned about misuse.
