Japanese schools conduct disaster preparedness and evacuation drills
Schools in Japan are conducting various disaster preparedness activities to ensure student safety during earthquakes and typhoons.
Clark Memorial International High School held an evacuation drill where students practiced protecting themselves during an earthquake and evacuating to a local elementary school. The school noted that students successfully applied lessons from previous drills during an actual earthquake event last year.
At Arima Junior High School in Kumano City, first-year students participated in disaster learning sessions. The training included practical exercises such as assembling portable toilets, wooden beds, and partitions used in evacuation centers. Students also learned about the importance of early evacuation during typhoons and the necessity of maintaining hygiene and privacy in shelters to prevent disaster-related deaths.
